The sculptural basketry of Robin Przybysz is based on a rhythmic and repetitive coiling process that the artist finds meditative and inspirational.

Coiling Process

  • Waxed linen is wrapped around a jute core to create a structure that is pulled around itself to fashion a coil.
  • To keep its shape in place, the spiral is stitched into place after each successive wrapping.
  • Coiling lends itself to manipulation into various patterns and shapes to create forms limited only by one’s imagination.

Each basket is unique, differing in color, configuration and embellishment. Przybysz uses dyes, pine needles, reeds, wood, beads and found objects to create one-of-a-kind basket sculptures.
